- The Racing Biz, 1.3.2025

"If it’s possible to burst quietly on the scene, trainer Stephen Murdock did that. Murdock had won with a solid 11 of 55 lifetime starters entering 2024. In ’24, primarily training for longtime owner Robert L. Cole, Jr., Murdock won at nearly a 50% clip overall, and at CT, he won with 24 of 48 starters, an astonishing rate, while generating purse earnings of over $400,000."

"Murdock, training for Robert Cole, Jr., won with half of his 48  starters, an absurdly high percentage that translated to 8.55 more wins  than his odds would have predicted (4.46 added wins per 25 starts). With  such a high win percentage, it’s no surprise that he also led the  colony by nabbing over 35% of available purse money, far more than  nearest competitor Anthony Farrior (21.7%)."

    "#4 Sarah’s Candy Camp (7-5)

has won two straight races at Charles Town. He was claimed out of victory in a $12,500 claimer against West Virginia-breds sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs; then, in his first start for ultra-hot trainer Stephen Murdock (a 51% winner at Charles Town this meet), Sarah’s Candy Comp won a non-state-restricted seven-furlong allowance."

"Three months earlier, Teachintherelease provided Murdock with his first  stakes win as a trainer, and on Saturday night he notched his second as  the Windsor Castle gelding prevailed in the Funkhouser." "... Cole said. “Right now, we’ve only got five horses in training and Stephen basically does everything on his own. He has no help – he’s trainer and groom."
